Burnside  Painting  Group

Community Art Group

Sue Baer was awarded a life membership

Wednesday 20 February 2019 from 7.30pm

At the most recent AGM we broke into groups and discussed issues relating to future management of the Burnside Painting Group, as well as events for 2019. It was a chance for members to have a say.

As all Committee positions became vacant, members were encouraged to consider taking a Committee position. Becoming involved at Committee level is a great way to learn about your club.

As well as Newsletter Editor, the positions of Social Secretary were declared vacant. Two new members joined the Committee.  Welcome!

New membership cards were introduced at the meeting for members to take home.  Just show your card when purchasing art materials at most art shops, and you may be entitled to a discount.

Guest speaker:   Greg Donovan on 'The expanded field of Drawing'

Drawing Hands by M. C. Escher, 1948, Lithograph.

Our guest at the AGM 2018 is Greg Donovan, who will talk about drawing.

Greg is Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the School of Art, Architecture and Design, University of South Australia, and is a practising artist.

Greg has provided the following background about what he will cover in his talk.

"It is interesting to note the historical debate concerning the rhetorical descriptions of how we might describe drawing. Returning to the Latin term, designo, provides a chronological context and yet simultaneously non-lineal discourse focussed on drawing within both a traditional framework and a more expansive contemporary vision.

In essence, drawing is a verb---it is an act upon. It is doing -- rather than describing.

Supporting my talk, I will show numerous visual examples of how drawing and its various interpretations through experimental/mixed mediums has changed over time."
