History

In 1963, instigated by Colonel Geoff Matthews, a group of enthusiastic artists met in the supper room at the Burnside Town Hall to create and to promote Art in the district of Burnside. The Colonel envisaged a group of artists of all stages of proficiency and talent guided by him and helping each other to improve their standards.

These excellent ideals have not changed since then, however our Tutor Artists are now paid and the classes more structured. Many of our members have become recognised Artists and quite frequently members win prizes in community exhibitions. To encourage members to widen their horizons and paint more freely we run workshops in contemporary styles using various mediums.

Colonel Geoff Matthew’s initial vision for the promotion of Visual Arts in South Australia continues today.

Aims

 The Burnside Painting Group Inc. provides a pleasant environment for anyone interested in learning and practicing painting and drawing.

The Group enables members to Exhibit their work.

Membership is open to beginners and to more experienced painters.

The Group organises short courses given by experienced painters.

We have sessions on Mondays from 10am to 12 noon and Wednesdays from 8pm to 10pm. This is when you can attend the courses or just paint with fellow members.

There are monthly social meetings where demonstrations and talks are presented  by well known artists.

How?

Pay an Annual Subscription fee of $60

which entitles¹ you to:

v    Attend weekly painting sessions.

v    Admission to all Social Nights and General Meetings.

v    Receive the bi-monthly Newsletter.

v    Access to our extensive library.

v    Submit for exhibition, subject to any rules governing such exhibitions.

v    Vote at any Ordinary or Special General Meeting of the Group.
