This year we have the privilege of holding our Spring Exhibition and Art Sale in the Atrium of the Burnside Civic Centre. It will run from Monday 1st September to Thursday 25th September, 2008. Opening hours will be from 9am to 5pm, Mondays to Fridays. This year we have arranged to combine the Annual Awards with the Spring Exhibition. When you complete your entry form for the exhibition, please make sure that you have indicated an Annual Award Category for each entry on the form and on the back of each painting. (See elsewhere in this newsletter for information about the Annual Award Categories) We will be having an Official Opening Night on Thursday September 11th, at 6.30 pm. Our Patron, the Hon. Christopher Pyne MP has agreed to open the exhibition, and will present the prizes for the Awards. We have a maximum of 40 spaces for paintings for hanging on the walls of the Atrium. Therefore you are invited to submit up to 2 paintings for hanging, for selection. (See instructions for framing on the entry form). We also have access to screens, where we can place 30 unframed works on paper. These paintings are to be on either A4 or A5 sized paper. They must be fixed by the artists to standard mounts before bringing them for selection. The mounts are available now from Pat Wyllie for $5 each. Those which are selected will be taken away by the Exhibition Committee on selection day, and covered by transparent cellophane. The Committee will deliver these to the Exhibition on Monday 1st September. You are invited to submit up to 3 unframed mounted works on paper. The entry fee for these unframed works on paper will be $2 each. Selection Day will be on Monday 25th August, at the Ward Hall. Please bring your paintings, completed entry forms (in this newsletter), and your entry money at 9.30am. The Selection Committee will begin its work at 10 am. You will need to take your paintings home again at the end of the morning, 12 noon, (except for the A4 and A5 works on paper fixed to the standard mounts). The Selection Committee will place a red dot on the paintings accepted for the Exhibition. Therefore, please bring that painting, only, to the Atrium for hanging. Entry money for unselected paintings will be returned to the artist. Catalogues and tags will be printed after all the selection has been completed. Hanging Day at the Atrium will be on Monday September 1st. Exhibitors will be required to deliver their own paintings for hanging to the Atrium, Burnside Civic Centre at 9 am on Monday 1st September for hanging by the Hanging Committee. You may drive to the front of the Atrium for delivery of your paintings. There is a “drop off area” accessed from Greenhill Road, with a standing time of about 10-15 minutes.
