Self Portrait
Wanda Brabenec

Wanda has taught art to our Burnside Painting Group members for a number of years now, and many people have gained from her enthusiasm and interest in sharing her gift for painting and drawing.

Wanda loved drawing from childhood, and drew all over everything during her school years.  In matriculation she did a Preliminary Diploma of Fine Art. On leaving school she immediately went to work as a graphic artist, and for the next seven years worked in that capacity in Adelaide, Sydney, Auckland NZ, and London.

She married, had children, and she and her family moved to Andamooka for 7 years.  In Andamooka she continued her painting and graphic art, and taught art classes.  She also helped raise money for, and was instrumental in starting up a Kindergarten there.

On her return to Adelaide she continued to do lot of free-lance graphic art, but also continued her painting. She gradually became more involved in art groups, exhibitions and competitions.  She has exhibited her work extensively.

She says “I love teaching, and I love attempting new subjects and techniques, and learning something new.”

She is a Fellow of the Royal South Australian Art Society, a member of the Mitcham Village Art and Craft Society, and of the Hand Spinners and Weavers group.

 She has won many prizes.
