Ronald Albert Gibbings-Johns was born in 1956 in England, his introduction to art schools began after meeting Richard Siemmens who agreed to teach him perspective and painting according to the realist tradition. After which he attended the Mc Neill academy of realist art and then the Gregory Smith School of Painters, Essendon, Victoria. His interest in painting has steadily grown along with him.

Over the years Ronald has exhibited regularly, his works receiving many awards. Also Ronald has taught art both in Austalia and overseas.

Although Ron paints a variety of subject matter, he has an enduring fascination for still life work. This is reflected in his studio as it overflows with many props that he has accumulated over the decades, some pieces may remain untouched for years, then at the right moment are dusted off to play their part in putting paint to canvas.

Of late, his landscape work has an added delight, in that on many occasions Ron is able to paint alongside his son Daniel who has a great capacity for landscape work.

Ron’s work is influenced by a variety of artists, such as Chardin, Vermeer and Rembrant.
Ron feels his objective in painting is not complex by any means, simply put he says, “ I find great beauty in many things, a vase of flowers in soft light is a treasure, old pots, a pair of worn boots, ceramics of all manner, all such things have there own beauty in the right light. To capture light falling on such things is a stimulating challenge, a fulfilling task. I hope that the paintings that come from my brush can in a whisper echo the beauties of the natural world, if others hear that whisper then the painter is rewarded. "

Ron has accumulated many awards over the years and his works are represented in collections both in Australia and overseas.
