Roe Gartelman

Roe is a well qualified artist with a Diploma of Teaching (Art) (Hons) from the SA School of Art, an AUA (Arts & Education) from Adelaide University and has also undertaken post Graduate Studies in Ceramics and Graphics at the SA School of Art.  Until 1985 she worked as a Secondary School Art Teacher and Adult Education Lecturer and from 1986 onwards as a Freelance Artist working from her home studio.  She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in SA and interstate.

She has won numerous awards, earlier ones for ceramic sculpture and a wide variety of awards for painting since 1986.  These include awards in the Toorak Fine Art Exhibition, Victor Harbor, Australian Artist Magazine Prizes, Coffs Harbor and others and first prize for watercolour in the Mobilong Murray Bridge Exhibition.  Her works have also been accepted for exhibition in the Alice Bale Award and the Australian Watercolour Institute Annual Exhibitions, and the Fleurieu Biennale SA.  She has been a member of several Art Associations over the years, including the Contemporary Art Society of SA, Port Hacking Potters Society of NSW, the Independent Art Collectives, a founding member of Willunga Hill Art Group and member of the Pastel Artists of SA.

Roe’s paintings hang in numerous places throughout Australia and overseas including the Austrade Centre, Shandong Province, China; RC Corner Collection, Glasgow, Scotland; Day Cutten Ltd, Orlando Wyndham, Adelaide Tuition Centre, University of NSW, Darwin Casino, Electricity Trust of SA, Noarlunga Hospital, Transport SA and other corporations and private collections.
